Hungry
When a breastfeeding mother says she is hungry, do not offer her *a* banana. Just one banana won’t do.
What might do:
5 bananas
or toast with peanut butter, banana, and dripping chocolate sauce
or a banana split
4 slices of banana chocolate chip bread
2 banana nutella crêpes
or a full meal followed by banana and chocolate sauce as dessert.
We’re that hungry.
And yes, I may...

half on a baby: there’s a debate over on abc’s... →
canwegohalfonababy:
there’s a debate over on abc’s facebook page this morning on whether or not photos of nursing should be considered obscene and flagged for removal. here is a sampling of what i saw written there:
COVER THEM UP… nothing as disturbing as a woman feeding in public UNCOVERED just to get…
Ah. The comment section… Always the best space for morons to express...

A few minutes
4-yr old is watching a cartoon, baby finishing his nap. The bags are packed, breakfast has been put away, the dishes are washed, S. had his snack, his medications and his teeth have been brushed and he’s dressed.
Looks like I even have a few minutes for myself to sit down. Oh, the luxury.

Not a fool
So these 4oz of milk that I had managed to express this morning? It was kind of a breakthrough for me! Until then, expressing more than 2oz at a time was a hard thing. It totally deserved a picture and a blog post!
Well anyway… these 4oz finished in the sink.
Let’s say that baby M. is not a fool and does not appreciate his mouth being invaded by a rubber nipple instead of The Real...

I know what I know! I know what I need!
Baby M. knows exactly what he needs. Very specific. And he’s very skilled at letting us know that we don’t understand what he wants from us until we perform the action he’s expecting.
He will root and give signs that he wants to nurse but will refuse to feed until we’ve changed his diaper if that’s what’s bothering him. And looks at me angrily until I’ve...
Why Men Don't Fancy Funny Women →

Despite recent arguments to support this article, I was kind of hoping that this wasn’t the truth.
“Research to be published this week in a leading academic journal confirms what many female comics - and funny women - have long suspected: men are frightened by their brand of humour. While men might chuckle at the odd gag, when it...

Admirer
Having a baby brings admiration to nature’s ways. It reminds me that we’ve all been programmed to achieve certain roles. A woman’s body has been created with the ability to change, shift, expand so that it can carry a baby. Then nourish a baby. With milk that adapts to circumstances, so that if my 4-yr old has a cold, I am producing antibodies that will be added to my milk so...

Socially awkward
Yesterday I was at a Christmas party. Everybody was dressed-up, myself included, and it felt good to be wearing make-up, heels and a dress after several months of jean-tee uniform.
However, I was still the mom of a newborn, heels or not heels. So when he started making movements showing he wanted to nurse, I absent-mindedly tapped my chestal region, to see where I had nursed last.
Then I noticed...

She doesn't know what she wants...
Last night, I couldn’t go to sleep. M. had gone to sleep rocked in D.’s arms and had not required the usual evening-in-bed feeding.
And I lay awake, watching minutes pass until midnight, because I was missing that feeding, how it induces sleep in me too, missing the closeness, his warmth, my hands gently caressing his head, the lullaby I usually sing him… Eventually, I put him in...

Lecture
Long and persistent lecture from S. (2 y/o) to his mama (me) this morning: I was wearing D.’s sweater and S. kept telling me it was his dad’s sweater and that I had to take it off. All of that in a delicate mix of French and English:
“maman, this is papa pull, take it off! Mamaaaannnn, c’est papa pull, TAKE IT OFF”.

Too fat to fight →
Who would have thought about that? Retired military veterans want junk food out of American schools because it poses a threat to the US future national security. 27% of America’s youth is too fat to serve in the military.
From my point of view, this might be the sole positive consequence of the obesity epidemy!
